Our Community Projects
Who we Are
MMIA is a group of artists from Chattanooga and the surrounding area who produce mixed media art. Our artists work in a contemporary style using acrylic as the primary medium, often incorporating mixed media and collage elements into their works. This group first became friends and contemporaries at Art Creations at Hamilton Place, where they were enrolled in Sandra Paynter Washburn's series of exploratory acrylic classes. Over the past several years, the group has experimented with a variety of water media techniques and learned about numerous genres, theories and styles of art. They have worked and played together in classes, group critiques, and on trips to museums, gardens and galleries. Different artists from the group have participated in juried shows with Tennessee Watercolor Society, Festival at Creative Arts Guild, Reflections Gallery, In-Town Gallery, and North Georgia Sky Painters. The goal of each artist is to develop a signature style that is different from everyone else in the group, to explore opportunities for exhibiting their works in group and solo shows, and to develop strong individual portfolios that highlight their strengths as artists. We have art for sale in our online art gallery and at our exhibits throughout the southeast.
